The constantly persecuted and increasingly paranoid Jeb usually starts his morning casting extended mage armor and an extended false life on himself using his cane. If he suspects combat he tries to cast stoneskin and shield followed by haste. If he has the time he tries to cast bull’s strength and bear’s endurance. Jeb knows that his dark side may take over at any time, mechanically this is represented by raging and the DM chooses when it happens. While raging Jeb is filled with bloodlust and a need to kill, but he is still a genius and knows when to withdraw.

Normally Jeb acts as an aloof and distanced, yet distinguished gentleman. He usually works as a physician, alchemist or a similar trade, and has a respectable professional reputation. He seems to be business like in his social mannerisms, but his tendency to hide behind dark goggles and a scarf makes him seem somewhat mysterious if not outright suspect. He has a habit of looking over his shoulder or gazing at the picture of his daughter found in the lid of his clockwork pocket watch. His abode is utterly devoid of any mirrors.
When Jeb’s darker sides emerge he is frantic, rude, violent and utterly depraved. Yet his manner of speech and eloquence remains, although this is just a mockery of his true being. While the dark side is in control Jeb feels an urge to destroy and hurt those around him, be it physically and violently or by more subtle means. Luckily for Jeb the dark part of him only emerges in rare circumstances and then only for a few moments at a time as the transformation is very hard on Jeb’s body.
Jeb’s dream had always been to be one of the proud tunnel wardens of his home like his father had been. But Jeb was born with an incurable wasting disease that slowly made his body dissolve from the inside out making him ill fit to be a warrior. Bound to a wheelchair for most of his early days, Jeb took up studying alchemy and magic to find a cure for his ailment.
After years travelling and studying with various wizards, witches and alchemist’s, Jeb returned to his home a wealthy and respected, yet still crippled man. During his years of travel he had married and. Jeb was tired of his experiments and had almost given up in finding a cure, but soon news came that his wife was pregnant and after a dramatic labor which his wife didn’t survive, it was apparent that his daughter had inherited his disease.
Deciding not to let his daughter suffer the same fate of growing up a cripple, Jeb returned to his obsession of finding a cure. After years of research Jeb’s obsessive experiments finally lead to some fruition. He decided to test the new elixir on himself first not knowing what murderous consequences this would have. The drug quickly consumed the gnome with bloodlust and he went on a murderous rampage through the village killing three of his fellow gnomes using only his bare hands. When he awoke to the sounds of an angry mob knocking at his door the gnome decided to take his daughter with him and escape. It soon became apparent to Jeb that the drug had some unforeseen side effects, but he was no longer a cripple and even amazingly strong and healthy, more so than the average gnome. Jeb tried to perfect the drug continuously testing it on himself in a hope to cure his daughter without the side effects but the result was always the same. After decades on the run with her now completely insane father, Jeb’s daughter was rescued by adventurer’s hired to take down the psychotic gnome and burned down Jeb’s laboratory assuming he died in the fire.
To this day Jeb is searching for her while plotting his reveng e against the society that stole his daughter from him.
Author's Note: Jeb could be an ally to the PC's, a friendly alchemist they buy supplies from, he may even try to hire the PC's to help him locate his daughter. Of course Jeb would never reveal his dark secret to the PC's.
